I Just noticed you left me a comment about my equipment.
I use a D80 (nikon). As for the settings..I like to switch it up, but i generally stick to manual mode and almost always use a flash.I love contrast so I'm always experimenting with the lighting.

Anytime..As far as the 80 goes; it's discontinued but you can still find them used/refurbished.
The upgraded model, the D90 you can find for a little under or over a g (new), depending on the kit you get.
